An established industry player is seeking a Test Lead to oversee the migration of critical SCADA systems. This role involves ensuring the accurate transfer of device data, leading testing efforts, and collaborating with business stakeholders to document and manage testing processes. The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, leveraging strong planning and communication skills to drive project success. Join a forward-thinking team dedicated to enhancing efficiency and regulatory compliance in the electricity transmission sector.
Client is in the process of migrating the Electricity Transmission business processes from the current shared SCADA system to a new OSI Aspentech/DGM provided Monarch SCADA System.
This migration is necessary as part of the separation from NESO (National Electricity System Operator), since they currently share a SCADA system.
The new ET SCADA system will monitor and control approximately 350 electricity substations.
Each substation comprises about 150 assets, including connectors, circuit breakers, and switchgears.
Each substation has an estimated 2,000 sensors that feed health status and asset data back to the SCADA system.
The new SCADA will be integrated with other business systems to minimize manual data handling, meet regulatory objectives for digitalization, and improve efficiency while maintaining safe systems of work.
The programme employs a mixture of SCRUM delivery until the end of SIT, with subsequent testing stages following Waterfall methodology.
There are four SCRUM Teams across five functional areas: MWP, MRTF, MTNC, SVC, and PNA (combined as the EMS team). These teams include DGM, NGET business SMEs, test resources, and resources from other suppliers.
Key responsibilities:
Ensuring correct migration of device data (points) into the new system, verifying that database points correspond to the actual network devices through Point-to-Point testing using an emulator to simulate devices, receive telemetry, and send control commands.
Expanding this testing to include live telemetry and side-by-side comparisons with the old system.
The Point-to-Point test Analyst will collaborate with Business SMEs to define the scope, ensure proper documentation in JIRA/X-Ray, and manage defect reporting related to this stage.
Work with Business SMEs to agree on and document the test scope, develop and review the Test Plan, and estimate work efforts for planning.
Ensure user stories for Point-to-Point testing are created in JIRA and incorporated into backlogs, supporting planning and resource allocation.
Document testing procedures, store results and evidence in JIRA and SharePoint, and monitor/report on testing status, coverage, and outcomes.
Manage defect reporting and support the production of the test outcome report at the conclusion of the stage.
Key skills/knowledge/experience:
Minimum of 3 years experience as a Test Lead in a customer-facing environment, preferably within a SCADA project.
Strong skills in test planning, estimation, design, development, documentation, and execution. Proficiency with JIRA and XRAY (including JQL scripting).
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to convey technical and testing concepts effectively to stakeholders.
Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to power and control systems, such as IEC101, IEC104, GI74, IEC 61850, and IEEE standards.
Good understanding of SCADA, Real-Time Control, and NMS, with experience in OSI Aspentech / DGM products or similar industry solutions.
