Job summary

Railpen is seeking a Project Manager Lead in London or Darlington with hybrid working arrangements. You’ll own and develop the Project Management capability across Change & Transformation, while championing the profession and its value across the wider organisation.

This is a people leadership and capability role rather than a delivery position. You’ll provide clear leadership, coaching and standards, creating opportunities for development and ensuring consistent practice across teams in concert

Qualifications

• Proven people leadership experience in complex change environments.
• Strong coaching and mentoring capability across career stages.
• Experience establishing and improving project management methodologies and standards.
• Solid understanding of planning, governance, risk management and delivery controls.
• Experience building professional communities and cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to balance governance with pragmatic delivery.

Responsibilities

• Line-managing and developing Project Managers, supporting performance and career progression.
• Own and improve Project Management capability, including standards, frameworks and pathways.
• Build and lead a Project Management community to promote knowledge sharing and development.
• Collaborate with Portfolio Managers, PMO and Resource Planning to optimise deployment and capability.
• Coach and mentor PMs on planning, governance, stakeholder management and delivery leadership.
• Use insights to identify capability gaps and drive continuous improvement in practice.
• Partner with capability leads to keep standards fit for purpose and aligned with needs.
• Champion consistent adoption of C&T and PM frameworks across the portfolio.
• Act as an advocate for the PM profession across C&T and the wider organisation.
