Job description

PLC Programming Engineer
Drax Power Station, Selby
Permanent, full time

Career level 4

Closing date: Friday 23rd May 2025

Who we are

We’re not just talking about making a difference, we’re making it happen. We generate dispatchable, renewable power and create stable energy in an uncertain world. Building on our proud heritage, we have ambition to become the global leader in sustainable biomass and carbon removals.

You’ll be joining our teams of practical doers, future thinkers and business champions. We’re enabling a zero carbon, lower cost energy future for all, and working hard to decarbonise the planet for generations to come.

About the role

You’ll be working in the Control & Instrumentation engineering team to safely deliver control system and PLC modifications and upgrades. This will include taking responsibility for plant improvement projects, delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions.

You’ll also be expected to maintain and improve the existing control systems and PLCs by implementing the latest security measures against cyber-attack. The role will challenge your technical ability, problem solving and communication skills and will contribute to the delivery of flexible, renewable energy at Drax Power Station.

This role provides an opportunity to develop into a subject matter expert for the implementation of cyber-security improvements in-line with the latest NIS regulation and IEC62443 recommendations.

Who we’re looking for

You’ll have a minimum of a HND in Control & Instrumentation, Electrical/ Electronic Engineering or Software Engineering. This will be coupled with previous PLC programming experience in a technical role.

Experience of configuring and programming Schneider PLCs is desirable, as well as knowledge of the NIS regulation and IEC62443.

The role comes with a lot of project delivery, so alongside the technical expertise, you’ll be an accomplished project manager and enjoy delivering critical projects and managing a dynamic workload.

Alongside technical skills, you’ll demonstrate a keen willingness to learn. You’ll have great analytical and problem-solving skills coupled with the ability to communicate across all levels. You’ll need to be a champion of safety and ensure that all environmental and housekeeping duties are carried out to a high standard.

As you help us to shape the future, we’ve shaped our rewards and benefits to help you thrive and support your lifestyle:

- Competitive salary
- 15% on-target discretionary group performance-based bonus
- 25 days annual leave (plus Bank Holidays)
- Single cover private medical insurance
- Pension scheme
