Job summary

CreatePay is building its PayFac/Acquiring platform in the UK and seeks a hands-on Software Engineer to own design, build, and delivery. You will work directly with the CTO, shaping core architecture and making decisive technical calls in a fast-moving fintech environment.

From day one you will define the technical domain, lead end-to-end delivery across distributed systems and data, and help scale the engineering function. Hybrid work with Milton Keynes office optional.

Qualifications

  • Deep engineering experience delivering complex systems end-to-end.
  • Experience across backend, data, integration, and infrastructure with minimal oversight.
  • Payments/fintech exposure required; able to design and build reliable, scalable systems.
  • Ability to define scope and prioritise work independently.
  • Advantageous: familiarity with PayFac, ISO, or payment gateway architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build distributed systems on AWS using serverless-first principles.
  • Liaise with 3rd party engineering teams across the lifecycle.
  • Architect for high availability, fault tolerance, and resilience.
  • Validate 3rd party deliverables, workshop solutions, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Design scalable data approaches and reporting structures.
  • Define infrastructure strategies including backup, redundancy, and lifecycle management.
  • Own the full delivery lifecycle from requirements to deployment and support.
  • Act as de facto product owner to define scope and drive outcomes.
