Job summary

Pertemps Dudley Industrial is seeking an experienced Plater in Dudley to join a busy steel fabrication environment. You will interpret drawings, mark out, cut, shape and assemble heavy steel components to tight technical specifications.

The role requires accurate measurement, attention to detail and safe operation of fabrication machinery such as plasma cutters, torches, guillotines, rollers and hydraulic presses. Monday to Friday, full-time position.

Qualifications

• Experience interpreting engineering drawings and fabrication blueprints.
• Ability to mark out, measure and prepare steel components for cutting.
• Proficiency with heavy fabrication tools and equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and quality in production.

Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering drawings and CAD schematics to determine dimensions and assembly needs.
• Measure and mark out steel plates and sections for cutting and fabrication.
• Operate fabrication equipment such as plasma cutters, torches, guillotines, rollers and hydraulic presses.
• Position, align and assemble heavy steel components using appropriate tools and lifting equipment.
• Perform tack welding to secure components before final welding.
• Inspect finished components for dimensional accuracy and compliance with specs.
• Grind and finish steel components to required standards.
• Maintain a safe, clean working environment in line with health and safety procedures.

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Plater to join a busy steel and heavy fabrication environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled metalworker with experience in interpreting engineering drawings, marking out, cutting, shaping and assembling heavy steel components.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of fabrication processes, excellent measuring skills and the ability to work accurately to technical specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and CAD schematics to determine dimensions, specifications and assembly requirements.
• Accurately measure and mark out steel plates and structural sections in preparation for cutting and fabrication.
• Operate fabrication equipment, including plasma cutters, oxyacetylene torches, guillotines, rollers and hydraulic presses.
• Position, align and assemble heavy steel plates and structural components using appropriate tools and lifting equipment.
• Carry out tack welding to secure components in position prior to final welding.
• Inspect finished components to ensure dimensional accuracy and compliance with engineering specifications.
• Grind, smooth and finish steel components to the required standard.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment, adhering to all relevant health and safety procedures.

The Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience in a Plater role within a steel fabrication or heavy engineering environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings accurately.
• Practical experience in marking out, measuring, cutting and assembling steel components.
• Familiarity with fabrication machinery, tools and equipment.
• Experience carrying out tack welding and grinding tasks.
• Strong attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and quality.
• A good understanding of health and safety procedures when working with heavy steel components.
