Job summary

Pertemps Dudley Industrial is seeking an experienced Plater for a full-time role in Dudley. You will read engineering drawings, mark out, cut and assemble heavy steel components with precision, using plasma cutters, torches and presses.

The ideal candidate will have strong fabrication knowledge, accurate measurement skills and the ability to work from technical drawings in a busy heavy fabrication environment. This hands-on role requires attention to safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Plater in steel fabrication or heavy engineering.
• Ability to read/interprete engineering and fabrication drawings accurately.
• Practical experience marking out, measuring, cutting and assembling steel components.

Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and CAD schematics to determine dimensions, specifications and assembly requirements.
• Accurately measure and mark out steel plates and structural sections in preparation for cutting and fabrication.
• Operate fabrication equipment, including plasma cutters, oxyacetylene torches, guillotines, rollers and hydraulic presses.
• Position, align and assemble heavy steel plates and structural components using appropriate tools and lifting equipment.
• Carry out tack welding to secure components in position prior to final welding.
• Inspect finished components to ensure dimensional accuracy and compliance with engineering specifications.
• Grind, smooth and finish steel components to the required standard.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment, adhering to all relevant health and safety procedures.
