Job summary

A waste management company in Greater Manchester is seeking a reliable Plant Mechanic to maintain, service, and repair a variety of heavy plant and yard machinery. You will play a key role in ensuring operational efficiency and safety. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and hydraulic knowledge, possess an NVQ in Plant Maintenance, and hold a full UK driving licence. Competitive pay of £16–£20 per hour based on experience, with consistent daytime hours in a friendly team environment.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical knowledge.
• Ability to diagnose and repair faults independently.
• Competent working with yard and plant machinery.
• Full UK driving licence.

Location: Wheeldons Bury – Bridge House, Yeargate Industrial Estate, Bury, BL9 7HT

Pay Rate: £16–£20 per hour (depending on experience)

Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00am – 5:00pm

Wheeldon Brothers Waste LTD is a long-established waste management company operating multiple sites across Greater Manchester. We run a range of plant and machinery to support our recycling operations at our Bury yard. We are looking for a reliable and skilled Plant Mechanic to join our team.

Role Overview

As a Plant Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing a variety of heavy plant and yard machinery used across the site. You will play a key role in keeping operations running efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned maintenance, servicing, and repairs on plant equipment (e.g., loading shovels, telehandlers, grabs, forklifts, yard machinery).
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults.
• Respond to breakdowns promptly to minimise downtime.
• Ensure all machinery is safe, compliant, and operating effectively.
• Conduct routine inspections and record findings accurately.
• Work closely with site managers and operators to identify issues early.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment.
• Source parts when required and assist with stock control.
• Follow all company safety procedures and site rules.

Experience & Qualifications
