Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is seeking a field-based technician to service, diagnose, repair and support a wide range of plant equipment across the UK. You will respond to breakdowns and planned maintenance, while ensuring compliance with safety standards.

The role requires experience in plant field service, strong fault-finding skills in mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, and the ability to work across diverse fleets. A full driving licence and adaptable travel are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a plant field service or mobile technician role.
• Competent to Plant Maintenance Level 3 or equivalent.
• Strong mechanical, hydraulic and electrical fault-finding skills.
• Experience maintaining a diverse plant fleet (construction, industrial or hire).
• Working knowledge of basic IT systems and applications.

Role Purpose

To provide nationwide field-based maintenance, repair, and technical support for an extensive plant fleet, ensuring equipment remains safe, compliant, and operational to agreed standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, diagnostics, repairs, and support to a wide range of plant equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns and planned maintenance across sites nationwide.
• Complete inspections, testing, and documentation in line with company procedures and safety standards.
• Liaise with plant managers, site teams, and suppliers to minimise downtime.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health & safety and statutory requirements.

Experience & Qualifications

• Proven previous experience in a similar plant field service or mobile technician role.
• Competent to Plant Maintenance Level 3 (or equivalent).
• Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical fault‑finding skills.
• Experience maintaining a diverse plant fleet (e.g. construction, industrial, or hire equipment).
• Have a working knowledge of basic IT systems and applications

• Flexible approach to working hours and travel.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently.
• Good communication skills and professional attitude when dealing with site personnel.
