Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is seeking a skilled field service technician to maintain and repair a broad plant fleet across the UK. You will carry out servicing, diagnostics, and on-site support to keep equipment safe, compliant, and operational.

The role requires strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical fault-finding abilities, a clean driving licence, and a flexible approach to travel. You will liaise with site teams and suppliers while adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar plant field service or mobile technician role.
• Strong fault-finding in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Experience maintaining a diverse plant fleet across sectors.

Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, diagnostics, repairs, and support to plant equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns and planned maintenance across sites nationwide.
• Complete inspections, testing, and documentation in line with procedures and safety standards.
• Liaise with plant managers, site teams and suppliers to minimise downtime.
• Ensure all work complies with health and safety and statutory requirements.

Job description

Role Purpose

To provide nationwide field-based maintenance, repair, and technical support for an extensive plant fleet, ensuring equipment remains safe, compliant, and operational to agreed standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, diagnostics, repairs, and support to a wide range of plant equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns and planned maintenance across sites nationwide.
• Complete inspections, testing, and documentation in line with company procedures and safety standards.
• Liaise with plant managers, site teams, and suppliers to minimise downtime.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health & safety and statutory requirements.

Experience & Qualifications

• Proven previous experience in a similar plant field service or mobile technician role.
• Competent to Plant Maintenance Level 3 (or equivalent).
• Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical fault‑finding skills.
• Experience maintaining a diverse plant fleet (e.g. construction, industrial, or hire equipment).
• Have a working knowledge of basic IT systems andapplications

Requirements

• Clean, full driving licence (essential due to nationwide travel).
• Flexible approach to working hours and travel.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
• Good communication skills and professional attitude when dealing with site personnel.
