Job summary

Rutland County Council's Development Management team is seeking an experienced Planning Support Team Leader to supervise the Planning Support team and ensure efficient processing of planning applications, appeals and related administrative functions within statutory timescales.

You will monitor service performance, drive improvements, and provide guidance to staff while ensuring high-quality customer service in a busy environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications (Word/Excel).
  • Significant experience with planning systems, legislation and application processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret plans, maps and technical drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy under pressure.
  • Ability to use initiative, solve problems and think logically.
  • Flexible and collaborative approach to work.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and excellent customer care.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Planning Technicians, allocate workloads and ensure resilience during periods of absence.
  • Oversee the validation and processing of planning applications and appeals within regulatory timescales.
  • Support administration and performance monitoring of the Council's building control service.
  • Maintain and develop planning systems, online portals and electronic records.
  • Produce, check and issue statutory planning documentation.
  • Monitor performance indicators and assist with government returns and benchmarking.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to team members.
  • Liaise with applicants, agents, statutory consultees, councillors and the public.
  • Support service development and the implementation of new processes and systems to improve efficiency and customer service.
