Our Company

Doocey Group is a family-run utility and civil engineering contractor with over 40 years’ experience built on strong, Black Country values. We’ve experienced significant growth over the past 10 years which we’ve achieved through consistently delivering high quality work on behalf of our clients, including Grid and South Staffordshire Water. We pride ourselves on the strength of our relationship with our clients and subcontractors and despite operating in a very fast-paced and often challenging industry, we will soon register a turnover of £100m, a significant milestone for the organisation. If you’re looking to join a business that values hard work, loyalty and ambition, you’ll feel right at home here.

The Role

As a Planner, you will be responsible for the end-to-end planning of framework utility works. You will play a key role in creating, maintaining, and monitoring detailed schedules that support every phase of utility works from early design through to reinstatement and handover. You will be the central figure in providing clarity, foresight, and structure whilst ensuring projects run efficiently, risks are mitigated, and client expectations are met.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and sequence activities across multi-utility disciplines, ensuring efficient use of resources and avoiding clashes
  • Manage delivery timelines and activities under long-term framework agreements
  • Track actual progress vs. planned, update programmes accordingly, and generate lookahead schedules for site teams and clients
  • Identify the critical path, analyse potential delays, and propose mitigation strategies to maintain delivery targets
  • Coordinate with internal delivery teams, subcontractors, and client representatives to ensure timely execution of works
  • Ensure compliance with framework performance indicators and client delivery schedules
  • Account for NRSWA permits, road space bookings, and other regulatory requirements when sequencing works
  • Provide program data to support valuations, applications for payment, change control and delay or extension of time claims
  • Produce regular reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal teams and clients, highlighting progress, risks, and upcoming milestones

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience planning within utility infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of framework-based delivery, ideally within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor
  • Proficient in planning software such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams concurrently
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, permits, and project specifications

Qualifications & Training

  • HNC / HND / Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar
  • We will accept applications from candidates qualified by experience
