Cummins is seeking an enthusiastic Student Engineer to join the design and development team for Drivetrain and Braking Systems in Cwmbran, Wales, UK. This placement year offers hands-on exposure with live projects under experienced engineers, preparing you for a career in automotive engineering.

You will work on detailed designs, tolerance layouts, and testing while gaining experience with simulation tools and industry practices. Summer 2027 start and on-site relocation are required.

Qualifications

• Currently studying for an accredited engineering degree, preferably Mechanical or transferable.
• Interest in working in a global corporation and adaptability to changing environments.
• Capable of independent work and teamwork as required.
• Keen to work in an automotive organisation with a keen interest in the automotive industry.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Student Engineer to join our team specializing in design and development for our Cummins Drivetrain and Braking Systems business in Cwmbran, Wales, UK. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry.

This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence Summer 2027.

The requirements are to be onsite so you will need to be able to travel or relocate to the location on your own behalf.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

• Gain hands‑on experience by working on live projects under the supervision of an experienced Engineer, ensuring real‑world exposure.
• Involve in various aspects of a typical Engineering role, including the detailed design of components to industry standards.
• Participate in creating construction or tolerance layouts, and conduct thorough testing of physical components for performance and reliability.
• Acquire knowledge about simulation techniques and software used in engineering projects to predict and enhance performance.
• Undertake an individual project that focuses on developing specific skills and knowledge, paving the way for future career advancement.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of engineering practices and principles, preparing you for a successful career in the engineering field.
