Job summary

Cummins is seeking a Student Engineer for the Drivetrain and Braking Systems team in Cwmbran, Wales. The placement provides hands-on design and development experience within a global organization, with exposure to real automotive projects.

The role is available to placement-year students, starts Summer 2027, and is onsite. You will learn about industry standards, simulation techniques, and contribute to an individual project to advance your engineering skills.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Student Engineer to join our team specializing in design and development for our Cummins Drivetrain and Braking Systems business in Cwmbran, Wales, UK. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry.

This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence Summer 2027.

The requirements are to be onsite so you will need to be able to travel or relocate to the location on your own behalf.

External Qualifications and Competencies

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

• Gain hands-on experience by working on live projects under the supervision of an experienced Engineer, ensuring real-world exposure.
• Involve in various aspects of a typical Engineering role, including the detailed design of components to industry standards.
• Participate in creating construction or tolerance layouts, and conduct thorough testing of physical components for performance and reliability.
• Acquire knowledge about simulation techniques and software used in engineering projects to predict and enhance performance.
• Undertake an individual project that focuses on developing specific skills and knowledge, paving the way for future career advancement.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of engineering practices and principles, preparing you for a successful career in the engineering field.

To be succesful in the role you will need the following:
