Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley offers a 12-month placement for a full-time undergraduate Civil Engineering student. You will work across design and construction teams on live projects within the Yorkshire Water framework, with travel across the Yorkshire and Humber region. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain exposure to real-world projects and professional mentorship.

The role starts Summer 2027. You will support planning, design, site activities and documentation, while developing practical skills

Qualifications

• You must be studying a full-time undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering.
• Have a basic understanding of civil engineering principles.
• Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, design, construction, commissioning, handover and completion of projects.
• Assist the Project Leader (Designer) with preparation of design, technical drawings and other documentation in line with company processes, procedures and contract requirements.
• Assist the Site Engineer with setting out line & level of structures and pipework in line with construction drawings using surveying equipment.
• Assist the Site Engineer with carrying out required quality assurance and completing ITRs (Inspection and test records).
• Assist the Site Manager & Site Engineer with supervising safety, health & environment on site in line with company standards and procedures.
• Assist the Site Manager & Site Engineer with day-to-day running of the site including requisition of materials and plant and processing of delivery tickets.
• Liaise with designers, support teams and supply chains.
• Assist the Site Engineer with producing as-built surveys and records.
• Assist the Project Leader (Designer) with compiling completion documentation in line with the client completion process.

About The Role

Our placements last for 12 months, working across both design and construction teams, to offer the broadest exposure to the industry, working on real-world projects that make a difference in communities. It’s a great chance to get involved with live projects while gaining experience relevant to your degree. This role is working within our Yorkshire Water framework, so travel around the Yorkshire and Humber region is required.

What You’ll Do

• Assist in the planning, design, construction, commissioning, handover and completion of projects
• Assist the Project Leader (Designer) with preparation of design, technicaldrawingsand other documentation in line with company processes,proceduresand contract requirements.
• Assist the Site Engineer with setting out line & level of structures and pipeworkin line with construction drawingsusing a variety of surveying equipment (GPS, total station, dumpy Level, pipe laser)
• Assist the Site Engineer with carrying out the required quality assurance and completing ITR's (Inspection and test records) in line with company procedures.
• Assist the Site Manager & Site Engineer with supervising safety, health & environment on site in line with company standards and procedures.
• Assist the Site Manager & Site Engineer with day-to-dayrunning of the site including requisition of materials and plant and processing of delivery tickets
• Liaise with designers, support teams and supply chains

What You’ll Need

• You must be studying a full-time undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering.
• Have a basic understanding of civil engineering principles and practices.
• Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• A valid driving license and use of a car is essential
• Willingness and flexibility to travel to sites across your operational region
