Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley is offering a 12-month placement across design and construction teams within the South West Water framework. You will gain exposure to live projects, work on design documentation, and assist on-site activities while travelling within the region.

Ideal candidates are undergraduates in Civil Engineering with strong communication and teamwork skills, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment. The role starts Summer 2027 and includes mentorship opportunities.

Qualifications

  • You must be studying a full-time undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Have a basic understanding of civil engineering principles and practices.
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • A valid driving license and use of a car is essential.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel to sites across your operational region.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, design, construction, commissioning, handover and completion of projects.
  • Assist the Project Leader (Designer) with preparation of design, technical drawings and documentation.
  • Assist the Site Engineer with setting out structures and pipework in line with drawings using surveying equipment.
  • Assist the Site Engineer with quality assurance and completing ITRs as per procedures.
  • Assist the Site Manager and Site Engineer with supervising safety, health and environment on site.
  • Assist with day-to-day site running including materials and plant requisition and delivery tickets.
  • Liaise with designers, support teams and supply chains.
  • Assist with producing as-built surveys and records.
  • Assist with compiling completion documentation in line with client processes.

About The Role

Our placements last for 12 months, working across both design and construction teams, to offer the broadest exposure to the industry, working on real-world projects that make a difference in communities. It’s a great chance to get involved with live projects while gaining experience relevant to your degree. This role is working within our South West Water framework, so travel around their region is required.

What You’ll Do
  • Assist in the planning, design, construction, commissioning, handover and completion of projects
  • Assist the Project Leader (Designer) with preparation of design, technical drawings and other documentation in line with company processes, procedures and contract requirements.
  • Assist the Site Engineer with setting out line & level of structures and pipeworkin line with construction drawingsusing a variety of surveying equipment (GPS, total station, dumpy Level, pipe laser)
  • Assist the Site Engineer with carrying out the required quality assurance and completing ITR's (Inspection and test records) in line with company procedures.
  • Assist the Site Manager & Site Engineer with supervising safety, health & environment on site in line with company standards and procedures.
  • Assist the Site Manager & Site Engineer with day-to-day running of the site including requisition of materials and plant and processing of delivery tickets
  • Liaise with designers, support teams and supply chains
  • Assist the Site Engineer with producing as-built surveys and records.
  • Assist the Project Leader (Designer) with compiling completion documentation in line with the client completion process.
