The Physical Therapist evaluates, plans, and implements goal-oriented Physical Therapy treatment programs focused on restoring function and preventing further disability caused by trauma, disease, amputation, congenital defects, surgery, or other debilitating illnesses.

Responsibilities

A typical day includes:

  1. Participating in committees as requested by Supervisor.
  2. Providing high-level customer service to residents, families, and visitors.
  3. Ensuring a safe environment for care delivery, demonstrating proper body mechanics, and employing appropriate treatment techniques.
  4. Establishing and updating discharge planning, completing summaries timely, and reflecting goal achievement and recommendations.
  5. Assessing the need for DME, ensuring proper fitting, and educating residents/families on its use and care.
  6. Preparing accurate documentation such as Progress Notes, Reassessments, and Discharge Summaries, reflecting resident progress and treatment modifications.
  7. Completing re-evaluations promptly and updating goals and treatment plans accordingly.
  8. Developing rapport with residents, providing education, and gathering evaluation information per departmental policies.
  9. Handling special projects and urgent assignments efficiently.
  10. Building mutual respect with patients/caregivers and team members to foster goal achievement.
  11. Providing and documenting education tailored to learning needs.
  12. Developing and implementing individualized treatment programs based on goals.
  13. Maintaining departmental productivity and proper documentation.
  14. Judiciously ordering and fitting prosthetic/orthotic devices, ensuring proper utilization and educating residents/families.
  15. Formulating and updating functional, measurable short and long-term goals.
  16. Respecting resident needs and providing therapy in a safe environment.
  17. Ensuring proper use and safety of assistive devices and equipment, and educating residents/families accordingly.
  18. Participating in discharge planning and ensuring the proper utilization of devices to improve independence.
  19. Performing other duties or projects as assigned.
  20. Adhering to organizational standards and competencies.
Qualifications

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Graduate of an APTA-accredited program or equivalent.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, crawl, climb, stretch, reach, push, pull, lift, and carry heavy objects.
  • Dexterity and eye-hand coordination for activities like manipulation and typing.
  • Visual and auditory acuity to monitor instruments, recognize characters, and perceive sounds.
  • Quick reaction ability in emergencies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient with computer platforms such as Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Physical Therapist License.
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (BLS) Certification.
