Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a dedicated phlebotomist to join the venepuncture service for inpatient wards at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and IRH. You will work as part of a team delivering timely blood sampling across Clyde Sector.

Ideal candidates will have phlebotomy experience, excellent communication, and the ability to manage time effectively in a busy hospital setting, with flexibility to travel between sites as required.

Qualifications

• Educated to Standard Grade level or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to reassure and support patients from a range of backgrounds.
• Strong team working skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clinical and non-clinical staff.
• Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet service deadlines.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail when identifying patients and handling samples.
• Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently when required.
• Ability to work in a busy healthcare environment while maintaining professionalism and patient-focused care.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from patients using venepuncture techniques in line with clinical requests.
• Accurately identify patients and ensure all samples and documentation are correctly labelled.
• Support the safe and timely delivery of blood specimens to laboratories to meet service requirements.
• Work closely with clinical colleagues, ward staff and phlebotomy team leaders to deliver an effective service.
• Adhere to infection prevention, health and safety, incident reporting and patient confidentiality policies.
• Monitor and maintain stock levels of essential phlebotomy supplies and equipment.
• Provide flexible support and cover for colleagues during periods of annual leave or absence.
