Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde invites applications for a Phlebotomist in the Medical Day Unit at Stobhill Ambulatory Care Hospital. The successful candidate will collect blood samples by venepuncture or capillary sampling and support the Haematology Clinic, ensuring accurate labeling and patient identification.

This permanent, part-time position (15.35 hours per week) operates on a rotational shift pattern and provides training and support within the Haematology Clinic.

Qualifications

• Educated to Standard Grade level or possess equivalent experience.
• Previous phlebotomy skills are desirable but training can be provided.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong team-working abilities.
• Good time management and organisational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload effectively.
• Reliable, self-motivated, and committed to delivering a high-quality patient service.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples by venepuncture or capillary sampling as requested by medical staff.
• Ensure accurate patient identification, sample collection, and labelling of specimens and documentation.
• Support the safe processing of blood transfusion cross-match samples in line with protocols.
• Liaise effectively with phlebotomy team leaders and clinical staff throughout the working day.
• Adhere to Infection Control, Health & Safety, Incident Reporting, and Patient Confidentiality policies.
• Support the timely delivery of blood specimens to laboratories to meet service targets.
• Provide cover for other phlebotomists during annual leave and sickness absence.
• Contribute to the delivery of an efficient phlebotomy service across the Acute Division.
