About the role

As a Phlebotomist, you will play a key role in delivering a professional, safe and patient centred blood collection service. Working closely with consultants, nurses and administrative colleagues, you will support patients attending a variety of specialist clinics and diagnostic appointments, ensuring they receive an excellent experience from start to finish.

Reporting to the Senior Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for performing venepuncture, ensuring accurate specimen collection and maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, dignity and care. You will also contribute to the smooth running of the service by maintaining accurate records, supporting quality standards and ensuring compliance with laboratory and infection prevention procedures.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a brand-new facility and play an important role in establishing a high quality service from day one.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support patients throughout their phlebotomy appointment, delivering compassionate, professional, and person-centred care.
  • Ensure all samples are correctly labelled, processed, and prepared for transport to the laboratory.
  • Work collaboratively with consultants, nurses, allied health professionals, and wider diagnostic teams to support an efficient patient journey.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised clinical environment, including stock management, equipment checks, and infection prevention measures.
  • Recognise and elevate patient concerns, changes in condition, or emergency situations in line with local procedures.
  • Accurately use laboratory and patient management systems to support sample ordering and record keeping.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by supporting quality, safety, and governance initiatives within the diagnostic service.
About you

You will be an experienced and compassionate Phlebotomist with excellent venepuncture skills and a strong commitment to patient care. You will be confident working independently, while also collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

With excellent communication skills and a calm, reassuring manner, you will be able to build trust with patients, including those who may be anxious or vulnerable. You will be highly organised, attentive to detail and committed to delivering an exceptional patient experience.

Formal Phlebotomy training, demonstrable venepuncture competency and experience working with a variety of patient groups are essential. Experience using Vacutainer systems and working within a healthcare environment would be advantageous.
