Job summary

NHS Scotland is seeking a part-time phlebotomist to support the practice with domiciliary and community venepuncture services. The role involves using ICE to log blood tests and updating patient records, with training available for INR monitoring tools.

Applicants should have a minimum phlebotomy experience and be able to manage electronic data entry and follow-up blood test appointments as required.

Responsibilities

• Provide high standard of practice for domiciliary phlebotomy to support clinicians.
• Maintain high standard of community venepuncture service for clinicians.
• Log blood test requests in ICE and ensure forms match tubes and records.
• Enter clinical/administrative data into electronic records accurately.
• Organise and update INR register (RAT) and report discrepancies to duty doctor.
• Access Docman to refer to patient letters and test results.
• Arrange follow-up recurring blood test appointments.

YOU MUST HAVE PHLEBOTOMY EXPERIENCE AS A MINIMUM

• Takes responsibility for a high standard of practice based & domiciliary phlebotomy service to support the clinicians of the practice in providing a quality patient service. This includes following clinical procedures and protocols and other associated procedures as directed and supervised by the Partners or Nursing Team.
• Ensures responsibility for a high standard of community based venepuncture service to support the clinicians of the practice when appropriate to do so.
• Using ICE software to request blood sampling logs all blood tests onto patients' electronic clinical record prior to sending to the laboratories for testing and accurately completes blood forms, which are matched with the blood tubes.
• Electronic data entry of relevant clinical and administrative data into the patients' electronic record,
• Experience using Coagucheck blood monitoring equipment for obtaining instant INR results - desirable but not essential as training can be given.
• Effectively organise and persistently update the computerised INR register, (RAT) and report any discrepancies to the duty doctor.
• Access Docman to refer to patient letters and blood test results
• Arrange follow up recurring blood test appointments
