Job summary

Invicta Health CIC is seeking a part-time phlebotomist (20 hours per week) to collect blood samples on referral from GPs and clinicians. The role covers three sites: Martello Health Centre, Church Lane Surgery and Orchard House Surgery.

Responsibilities include obtaining consent, proper labeling, accurate patient identification, and timely dispatch of samples to laboratories. Compliance with infection control and practice policies is essential.

Qualifications

  • Qualified in Phlebotomy.
  • Functional skills in English and Maths.
  • Good General Education.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venepuncture to obtain blood samples as directed by GP, Nurse Practitioner or clinician.
  • Collect blood samples across three sites: Martello Health Centre, Church Lane Surgery and Orchard House Surgery.
  • Ensure patient comfort, obtain consent and label samples accurately.
  • Check patient identity against GP/nurse requests and confirm with the patient.
  • Record collection details in patient records and dispatch to laboratories promptly.
  • Report anomalies to senior staff and notify the GP/nurse of issues.
  • Maintain cold chain by checking fridge temperatures and storing samples correctly.
  • Assist administrative team and adhere to practice policies and infection control requirements.

Job description

This is a part time role, of 20 hours per week, working strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients only as the result of a direct referral from a GP, Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Pharmacist, Practice Nurse & qualified clinicians.

This role will be worked across 3 surgery sites:Martello Health Centre, Church Lane Surgery and Orchard House Surgery.

Main duties of the job

Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their consent to the collection of a blood sample

Collection of sample(s)s of blood in accordance with training and procedures Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers

Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity

Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible

Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.

Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues

Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team

Report any clinical or environmental issues of concern and take action to rectify these where appropriate

Ensure a working knowledge and compliance with Practice Policies and Procedures Check and record fridge temperatures to maintain the cold chain

Check and re-stock GP rooms regularly

Understand the importance and adhere to infection control issues Keep clinical areas clean and free from clutter.
