Job summary

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking a part-time Phlebotomy Team Lead in Cannock to guide an established team. You will handle admin duties such as rota input, staff training, and supervise clinical phlebotomy tasks across Cannock Chase Hospital and cross-site with New Cross Hospital.

The role requires Venepuncture expertise, team leadership experience, and a flexible 5x5 hour shift pattern with varied shifts. NHS experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a phlebotomy team and manage rota input.
  • Ensure mandatory training and competency assessments are completed.
  • Coordinate across Cannock Chase Hospital and New Cross Hospital sites.
  • Maintain high standards of patient care and safe working practices.
  • Attend team meetings and support line management in duty allocation.

Job description

We are looking for someone to join and lead an existing established Phlebotomy team within Cannock Chase Hospital.

The position is a 25hr post which comprises of 5 x 5hr shifts on a varying shift pattern, therefore flexibility is essential.

The post will combine a mixture of admin duties, such as Rota input and staff training, as well as clinical duties therefore experience in Venepuncture is essential.

We are looking for someone who has experience of supervising a small team, who can support staff and provide optimum patient care.

We are looking for a keen and enthusiastic individual who can bring forward thinking ideas to our very busy department.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the collection of blood samples, they must be experienced in taking blood from all types of patients of all ages from ages 10yrs and upwards.

Undertake Competency assessments of the Venepuncture procedure to all new staff.

Responsible for ensuring mandatory training is completed.

Responsible for Rota input and managing daily sickness within the team.

To participate in Team leader and management meetings, attend and support necessary Safety checks within the department.

Cross site working with New Cross Hospital is mandatory within this role.

Job responsibilities

To resolve minor staffing issues with assistance of Line Manager

To support the recruitment of phlebotomists, induction and orientation programmes.

To observe the working practices of staff at regular intervals to ensure that phlebotomy is being delivered to the required standard.

To be responsible for supervising a phlebotomy team.

To be responsible for implementing sickness absence policy to return to work level.

To undertake appraisal and develop Personal Development Plans for phlebotomy team

Complete appropriate sickness, appraisal and annual leave records.

To support the co-ordination of optimum deployment of phlebotomists across all areas

Promote healthy employee relations within the department, ensuring consultation with staff and Line Managers.

To hold regular team meetings and communicate these to all team members.

Apply and follow the Trusts policies and procedures.

  • Must be experienced in Venepuncture

  • Good level of education (including Maths and English)
  • Flexibility within working shift pattern

  • Full clean UK Driving license
  • NHS experience
  • Knowledge of NHS systems
