Permanent post

This post is based at the Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis and offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced self-motivated technician to help continue exciting work in developing a clinical and patient-focused clinical pharmacy service. You will get the opportunity to make a real difference to the pharmacy service, pursuing value-added projects which resonate with you.

The post-holder will be one of a team of technicians working at this hospital and will be responsible for services to the wards and within the dispensary including patient counselling and multi-disciplinary working with ward-based pharmacists, medical and nursing staff. The department also employs a number of pre-registration pharmacy technicians so there is an opportunity to develop as a work-based assessor and to provide mentorship.

There will also be opportunities to get involved in providing a pharmacy service to the local hospice and remotely to the other two hospitals in the archipelago, SACT and multi-disciplinary training sessions. All hospitals in the Health Board are utilising HePMA. Skill development is encouraged through project work and audit.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly, supportive and highly motivated multidisciplinary team including a full range of healthcare professionals. We have close links with the primary care team and work cohesively to put medicines-related projects in place across the patient population.

We are offering an opportunity to live and work in our beautiful and rural island community. You can enjoy amazing outdoor and cultural activities such as kayaking, surfing, climbing, hill walking, diving as well as a wealth of traditional crafts and music-related pursuits. There is a lively social scene in Stornoway which boasts a theatre, cinema, restaurants and a variety of pubs. We are also only a short journey from Glasgow, Inverness and Edinburgh by plane, with twice daily ferry sailing to Ullapool. There are ferry and plane links to the other Outer Hebridean islands.
