This position is based at the Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced, self-motivated pharmacy technician to contribute to developing a clinical and patient-focused pharmacy service. You will have the chance to make a real difference by pursuing value-added projects aligned with your interests.
The successful candidate will join a team of technicians responsible for ward and dispensary services, including patient counselling and multidisciplinary collaboration with ward-based pharmacists, medical, and nursing staff. There are opportunities to develop as a work-based assessor and provide mentorship, as the department employs pre-registration pharmacy technicians.
You will also have opportunities to participate in providing pharmacy services to the local hospice and remotely to other hospitals in the archipelago, as well as engaging in SACT and multidisciplinary training sessions. Skill development through project work and audits is encouraged, with all hospitals utilizing HePMA.
This is an exciting chance to join a friendly, supportive, and highly motivated multidisciplinary team, including a full range of healthcare professionals. The team maintains close links with primary care to implement medicines-related projects across the patient population.
Living and working in our beautiful rural island community offers access to outdoor and cultural activities such as kayaking, surfing, climbing, hill walking, and diving, alongside traditional crafts and music. Stornoway has a lively social scene with theatres, cinemas, restaurants, and pubs. The area is well-connected by plane to Glasgow, Inverness, and Edinburgh, and by ferry to Ullapool, with links to other Outer Hebridean islands.
