Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the successful post holder to provide dedicated analytical support to the Pharmacy Medicines Value and Biologics team, enabling the cost-effective, evidence-based use of medicines across the Trust. The role will focus on the analysis, interpretation and reporting of medicines usage, activity and expenditure data, with particular emphasis on high-cost drugs, biologics, and biosimilars. The post holder will support the delivery of medicines optimisation programmes, Cost Improvement Programmes (CIPs), and gain share agreements with the Integrated Care Board (ICB). Using tools such as Power BI, Rx-Info (Define/Refine) and Trust data systems, the post holder will develop dashboards and reports to:

  • Monitor high-cost drug and biologics use
  • Identify variation and opportunities for improvement
  • Support cost-effective medicines uptake and pathway compliance
  • Enable robust tracking and validation of savings

The role will also contribute to NHSE and Blueteq reporting requirements, ensuring data is accurate, timely, and aligned with commissioning criteria. Working closely with pharmacy, finance and digital teams, the post holder will translate complex data into meaningful insights to support decision-making, improve value, and contribute to the Trust's financial sustainability. The post holder will analyse and interpret medicines usage and expenditure data, with a particular focus on high-cost drugs, biologics, and medicines. They will develop and maintain reports and dashboards using tools such as Power BI, Rx-Info, and Excel to support medicines optimisation, Cost Improvement Programmes (CIPs), and gain share delivery. The role includes supporting NHSE and Blueteq reporting requirements, identifying variation in prescribing, and providing clear, data-driven insights to pharmacy, finance, and clinical teams. In addition, the post holder will contribute to improving data quality, maintaining reporting processes and documentation, and responding to ad hoc information requests. They will work collaboratively across teams to support service development, ensure compliance with data governance standards, and enable informed decision-making across the organisation. The post holder will provide high-quality analytical support to the Medicines Value and Biologics team to enable the cost-effective, evidence-based use of medicines across the Trust. The role will focus on the management, analysis, and interpretation of medicines data, with a particular emphasis on high-cost drugs, biologics, and biosimilars, supporting both financial and clinical decision-making.

  • Analyse medicines usage, activity, and expenditure data from Trust systems and external sources
  • Identify trends, variation, and outliers in prescribing, particularly in high-cost drugs and biologics
  • Produce accurate and timely routine and ad hoc reports to support medicines optimisation, CIPs, and gain share agreements
  • Develop and maintain dashboards using tools such as Power BI, Rx-Info (Define/Refine), and Microsoft Excel, Support monitoring of biologics and biosimilar use, including uptake and compliance with agreed pathways
  • Contribute to identifying opportunities for cost savings and improved value through data analysis
  • Support biologics switching programmes and other medicines optimisation initiatives
  • Assist in tracking and validating delivery of medicines-related savings and financial benefits
High-Cost Drugs and NHSE Reporting
  • Support analysis and reporting of NHSE high-cost drugs, including activity and expenditure
  • Assist with Blueteq reporting and validation, ensuring data aligns with commissioning criteria
  • Work with pharmacy and finance teams to support internal and external reporting requirements, Maintain high standards of data quality and integrity across all datasets
  • Identify and escalation data quality issues and support improvements where required
  • Ensure compliance with Information Governance, GDPR, and Trust policies
  • Maintain clear documentation and standard operating procedures for reports and processes
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Present complex data in a clear and meaningful way to a range of stakeholders
  • Respond to ad hoc data requests, ensuring outputs meet user requirements and deadlines
  • Work collaboratively with pharmacy, finance, and digital teams to support service development and performance monitoring, Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting processes and analytical capability
  • Support development of standardised reporting and dashboards across the service
  • Work independently within agreed objectives, escalating issues appropriately
  • Undertake any other duties consistent with the grade and role, as required by the Medicines Value and Biologics team

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
