Job summary

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 5 Pharmacy Technician to join the Homecare service. The post is full-time, permanent, and based at Oxford with a 37.5-hour week. The role focuses on managing homecare medicines and links with clinicians, patients and third-party providers.

You will develop and support medicines management, coordinate delivery and invoicing, and ensure governance and data reporting for efficient homecare services within the trust.

Qualifications

• Qualified pharmacy technician (NVQ3) or equivalent.
• Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council as a registered technician.
• Experience in medicines management in hospital.
• Good IT skills including database and Excel.
• Ability to plan and direct own work.
• Experience training and supervising staff.
• Proven ability to develop policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Understand the homecare pathway from deciding appropriateness of homecare registering patients, through to final processing of invoices.
• Support the clinical teams with their homecare service.
• Process authorise and receipt Homecare deliveries on the pharmacy system.
• Develop services in line with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Standards for Homecare.
• Coordinate with clinical pharmacists and homecare providers to implement and manage services.
• Review service level agreements and monitor performance with providers.
• Support governance through policy development and reporting of KPIs.
• Ensure patient information is secure and compliant with information governance.

Main duties of the job

• To have an understanding of the homecare pathway, from deciding appropriateness of homecare registering patients, through to final processing of invoices.
• Work in accordance of the homecare pathway to support the clinical teams with their homecare service
• To process authorise and receipt Homecare deliveries on the pharmacy system
• Work in accordance with and develop services in line with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Standards for Homecare.
• To be a point of contact within the Trust regarding medicines home delivery service for Homecare companies, Pharmacists, Clinicians, Purchasers, Contracting and Finance.
• Co-ordinate the pharmacy homecare medicines service, prioritise and manage the workload and resolve problems as they arise.
• Liaise with homecare service providers to review and prepare service level agreements for implementation within the Trust.
• Support service review meetings for homecare medicines management working closely with homecare companies, pharmacists, nurses, doctors, other healthcare staff and patients.
• To assist the Pharmacy Homecare Manager in the governance of Homecare through policy and protocol development
• Assist the Homecare Pharmacy Service Manager in maintaining and reporting of departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
• Ensure all patient related information is secure and complies with current guidance for information governance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To support and assist the Pharmacy Homecare Service Manager and Medicines Effectiveness Pharmacist in cost effective procurement and delivery of Homecare medicines and services for the OUH NHS Foundation Trust (OUH).

To develop and support the pharmacy Homecare service at the OUH to develop services for the safe and timely supply of medicines to patients via third party homecare companies by establishing robust methods of managing the administrative work, monitoring homecare providers performance.

Co-ordinate and communicate with clinical pharmacists integrated into service to implement and manage existing homecare services.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

• Qualified pharmacy technician (NVQ3) pharmaceutical sciences or other relevant qualification
• Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council as a registered technician
• Experience working in one or more aspects of medicines management in hospital
• Good all round understanding of medicines management and the pharmacy service
• Experience working with Pharmacy Computer Systems
• Ability to plan and direct own work, use initiative and attention to detail
• Demonstrable ability to collect and critically analyse data
• Good IT skills, including database and Excel, equivalent to RSA Level 3.
• Enthusiasm for using IT and developing new skills
