Job summary

Cornwall Council seeks a reliable Personal Assistant to support a young child with autism and severe learning disabilities, both at home and in the community. You will help create a calm, safe environment and learn the child’s routines and communication cues to respond gently.

This role includes assisting with daily routines and personal care, including continence needs, while remaining patient and responsive to behaviours.

We are seeking a reliable and compassionate Personal Assistant to support a young child with autism and severe learning disabilities.

As a Personal Assistant, you will be supporting a much-loved child both at home and out in the community. Your role will be to help create a calm, safe, and reassuring environment where they feel comfortable and understood.

You will get to know their individual needs, routines, and ways of communicating, and use this to guide your support in a gentle and consistent way. Support will include helping with daily routines and personal care, including continence needs, while being patient and responsive to behaviours and communication cues. Some days may be more challenging than others, so it is important that you can remain calm and reassuring, helping to reduce distress and provide a sense of security.

You will also support engagement in activities they enjoy, following their lead and encouraging their interests at their own pace.
