Job summary

Springer Nature is seeking a Permissions Assistant to support the Journals Permissions Manager in London. You will help manage day-to-day permissions requests, maintain accurate records and liaise with internal teams to ensure timely responses.

The role requires strong English and maths, excellent organisation and communication skills, and a good understanding of licensing basics. This hybrid London position offers broad exposure to publishing workflows and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Degree calibre or equivalent experience.
  • Strong maths and English literacy.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities accurately.
  • Knowledge of academic publishing and content licensing.
  • Some knowledge of copyright/IP law.
  • Experience understanding and handling contracts.
  • Working knowledge of another language.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver day-to-day administrative and operational support to the Journals Permissions team.
  • Coordinate room bookings, conference calls, minutes and incoming post with clear, professional communication.
  • Monitor the shared permissions inbox and process or respond to incoming requests.
  • Handle RightsLink tickets and issue licences in line with agreed processes and guidance.
  • Support the Permissions Executive with reporting, maintaining schedules, payment processing and raising invoices.
  • Work with rights colleagues to contribute to systems and process projects or working groups as required.
  • Maintain accurate records and follow agreed workflows, escalating complex or sensitive matters appropriately.

About the Role

Provide effective administrative and operational support to the Journals Permissions Manager and the wider Journals Permissions team, helping ensure permissions requests are handled promptly, accurately and with a strong customer focus. The location(s) strategy supports team structure and aligns business needs.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • Essential Degree calibre or equivalent experience.
  • Good standard of mathematics and English.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities accurately and reliably.
  • Desirable Knowledge of the academic publishing business.
  • Experience of, or familiarity with, the basic principles of content licensing methods and terms.
  • Some knowledge of copyright and other relevant intellectual property law.
  • Experience of understanding and handling contracts.
  • Working knowledge of another language.
