Job summary

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Theatre Scrub Practitioner (Band 5) to join the Main Theatres at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead. The role is full time (37.5 hours) with nights and weekends expected, and supports peri-operative care under the team leader.

You will work to maintain high standards of patient care, liaise with the surgical team and hospital departments, and uphold NHS pay scales (£32,073–£39,043 pro rata) with a permanent contract.

Qualifications

• 1st level Registered Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner
• Good written and verbal communication
• Basic IT skills
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
• High level of motivation towards patient care and CPD
• Flexibility
• Aware of data protection responsibilities
• Experience of audit projects
• PP126/127 or equivalent or willing to undertake

Responsibilities

• Prepare all instruments and equipment for surgery (microscopes, lasers, endoscopes)
• Provide correct surgical instruments and materials to surgeon
• Be responsible for all instruments, equipment and swabs during operation
• Act as link between surgical team and other theatre/hospital parts
• Anticipate needs of the surgical team and respond effectively
• Deliver safe, high-quality care for all surgical patients
• Contribute to training and development within peri-operative team
