Job summary

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a theatre practitioner to organise and provide nursing care in the peri-operative setting under the team leader. You will support the surgical team and act as the bridge between the theatre and other hospital departments.

Essential requirements include being a 1st level Registered Nurse or ODP, with basic IT skills and strong communication. The role emphasises patient care, teamwork and adherence to data protection and professional codes.

Qualifications

• Qualified Nurse/ODP with current registration.
• Basic IT skills and good written/verbal communication.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and develop professionally.
• Commitment to patient care and data protection responsibilities.
• Desirable: Experience of audit projects.
• Desirable: PP126/127 or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Prepare instruments and equipment for surgery, including microscopes, lasers and endoscopes.
• Provide correct surgical instruments and materials to the surgeon.
• Be responsible for all surgical instruments, equipment and swabs during the operation.
• Act as a link between the surgical team and other parts of theatre and hospital.
• Anticipate requirements of the surgical team and respond effectively.
• Deliver safe, high-quality care for all surgical patients.
