Job summary

Thames Water seeks a Performance Manager to lead the Slow Sand Filter Operators at the Ashford site, developing the team and delivering safe, compliant operations within budget and deadlines. You will analyse data, prepare reports for stakeholders and drive improvements across the treatment processes for London.

The role requires strong people management and the ability to coordinate activities across operations, engineering and finance, ensuring readiness of mobile plant and adherence to health

Qualifications

  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and inform decisions.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with managers at all levels.
  • Excellent organisational skills with ability to manage workload under pressure.
  • Health and Safety awareness, stakeholder engagement and customer focus are essential; a valid UK driving licence is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of Slow Sand Filter Operators and a Working Supervisor to meet targets.
  • Control and audit site activity, ensuring safety of the team, contractors and others in line with H&S policy.
  • Analyse data to inform site performance and planning decisions; prepare reports for stakeholders.
  • Ensure production plans and service agreements are met and manage budgets to hit financial targets.
  • Maintain operability of mobile plant, certify effective maintenance, escalate faults and work with maintenance contractors.
  • Provide guidance from past experience in coordinating team activity.

Job description

This is an opportunity to build on your people management experiences in an important role within our critical water infrastructure network. From our Ashford and Kempton sites, every day we provide London and the surrounding areas with high-quality, fresh drinking water. This role will require you to lead and develop a team of operatives as well as manage the performance of two of the main slow sand filter treatment processes for producing clean drinking water for London. The role also requires you to safely achieve specific operational outputs to the required standards across the business, within budget and deadlines.

What you'll be doing as a Performance Manager - Slow Sand Filters
  • Managing a team of Slow Sand Filter Operators and a Working Supervisor to perform effectively against internal and external targets.
  • Controlling and auditing site activity, ensuring the safety of the team, contractors and other third parties through the consistent application of company Health & Safety policy.
  • Analysing data to inform site performance and planning decisions.
  • Preparing reports and presentations for key stakeholders as required.
  • Ensuring the team are in line with production plans and service agreements are met.
  • Managing budgets and cost to ensure you are meeting and exceeding financial targets while maintaining quality.
  • Ensuring the continued operability of the Slow Sand Filter team's mobile plant, by certifying effective maintenance, escalating faults and working with the mobile plant maintenance contractors.
  • Previous experience managing and supporting a team whilst coordinating team activity.

The ideal candidate will be someone who can develop and encourage people within a team setting.

  • Strong analytical skills with experience of understanding and interpreting data to create change and make decisions.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. Confident in your ability to present key findings and liaise with managers of all levels.
  • Excellent organisational skills, a keen eye for detail and demonstrable ability of managing workload under pressure.
  • Health and Safety, stakeholder engagement and customer focus is essential.
  • Due to the nature of the role, a valid, UK driving licence is required.
Additional skills and experiences would be great to have/bring
  • Previous water experience would be beneficial as well as having knowledge of the clean water process.
  • Industrial site experience would be beneficial, as would previous operation of mobile plant.
  • Strong background in process management with excellent skills in operations, engineering, finance.

Salary and benefits
  • Offering a salary £38,000 to £45,000 per annum depending on skills and experience.
  • Annual Leave: 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service (plus bank holidays)
