Job description

Job Overview

We are excited to be expanding our small and friendly team. The new People (HR)

Advisor will report to the Head of People and work alongside two part time HR

Officers. This is a full-time role working Monday to Friday throughout

the year with the opportunity to work remotely two days per week.

Duties And Responsibilities

Absence Management

  • To provide advice and guidance to colleagues and their line managers in relation to the School’s absence policies and procedures.
  • To accurately record and monitor colleague absence.
  • To support line managers in conducting return to work and sickness absence meetings.
  • To advise on medical examinations and occupational health referrals and help managers implement recommendations to support colleagues effectively.

Contractual Administration

  • To prepare offer letters and contracts for all categories of staff.
  • To carry out employment status checks in order to comply with the Off Payroll Working (IR35) regulations.
  • To prepare letters relating to changes to terms and conditions e.g. changes to hours, salary, job role, working arrangements and end of probation etc.

Employee Relations

  • To provide HR support in respect of organisational change initiatives, including restructures, redeployment and contractual changes.
  • To support the Head of People in any capability, disciplinary or grievance cases, and any other casework that arises.

HR Systems

  • To utilise all of the School’s HR information systems ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality.
  • To produce reports, as required, including for the statutory returns such as for the DfE and Office for National Statistics.
  • To play a key role in crafting insightful HR and recruitment reports and analytics.

Learning and Development

  • To support the Head of People in developing and organising HR training sessions and workshops.

Maternity/Paternity/Adoption/Parental Leave

  • To provide advice and guidance on maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave as well as flexible working and hybrid working arrangements.
  • To produce all necessary supporting documentation and calculations for paid leave in respect of the above.

Onboarding and Offboarding

  • To arrange and conduct induction briefings for new staff.
  • To arrange and conduct exit interviews and feedback on any issues and trends.

Pay And Benefits

  • To advise colleagues on all aspects of reward and renumeration.
  • To work closely with the School’s Management Accountant and Payroll Officer to ensure that all changes in renumeration are reflected accurately in the monthly payroll.
  • To support the Head of People in working closely with the Director of Finance on the preparation of the annual staff budget
  • To administer the School’s Group Life and Income Protection Schemes.
  • To administer, publicise and advise colleagues and applicants on staff benefits.
  • To liaise with the School’s pension and benefits advisors as required.
  • To notify the School’s Finance Director of Colleagues that qualify for fee remission (discounted school fees) and to ensure that the supporting documentation is submitted.
  • To conduct salary bench marking and contribute to salary surveys.

Policy Development

  • To assist the Head of People in developing HR policies and procedures that are legally compliant, meet the School’s business needs and reflect best practice.

Recruitment and Selection

  • To support the Head of HR in advising on all aspects of staff recruitment and selection to include:
  • making recommendations on cost effective advertising platforms.
  • working to ensure that the recruitment and advertising process encourages a diverse range of candidates and successful appointments.
  • assisting with drafting of interview questions and designing selection tasks; and
  • ensuring that there is continuous improvement based on feedback from past candidates and in line with published research and best practice.
  • To participate in interview days involving welcoming and meeting candidates, checking their identification and qualification documentation and escorting candidates from their observed lesson, interview etc.
  • To support with the administration of recruitment, onboarding and offboarding (including pre-appointment vetting) when needed including during school holidays and periods of annual leave.
  • To interview for a range of appointments.

Regulatory Compliance

  • To have or acquire a comprehensive understanding of ISI regulatory requirements and Keeping Children Safe in Education, and to assist in applying these to all HR practice.
  • To ensure, along with all others in the HR Team, the School’s Single Central Register of staff is effectively and accurately maintained.

Other Duties

  • To manage the HR team inbox
  • To stay up to date with employment law, HR best practice, current research and trends.
  • To undertake any other duties consistent with the scope of the post as directed by the Head of People.
