Job description

An excellent opportunity for a Pension & Payroll Specialist to join a not-for-profit independent organisation working in partnership with the NHS, based in Farnborough, Hampshire. The role requires full-time, permanent commitment.

You will be responsible for the operational management of payroll and pension processes, ensuring accurate and timely monthly payroll delivery and comprehensive administration of the NHS pension scheme, all in line with company and statutory requirements.

Main duties of the job

As a key part of the Finance team, reporting to the Finance Manager, your role involves complex payroll and pension duties. You will manage monthly payroll processing, update employee details, handle extra hours, reconcile data, issue payslips, and ensure compliance with payroll legislation, including HMRC regulations. You will oversee NHS pension compliance, including auto-enrolment, contributions, and annual returns, and act as the main contact for employee pension queries.

SDC offers integrated urgent care services, including clinical assessment, out-of-hours provision, urgent treatment centres, and virtual care. Job responsibilities

Undertake the following tasks related to monthly payroll processing, with support from the Finance Team as needed:

  • Update employee tax codes as advised by HMRC.
  • Update Sage payroll system for employee changes, including starters, leavers, pay rates, and personal details.
  • Process extra hours claims and variations.
  • Update salaried staff schedules and import pay data into Sage payroll.
  • Reconcile pay data from RotaMaster and import into Sage Payroll.
  • Check, reconcile payroll data, and produce reports.
  • Issue payslips and earnings reports.
  • Process leavers and distribute related documentation.
  • Submit FPS and EPS to HMRC.
  • Process net payments, reconcile, and pay PAYE.
  • Reconcile Government Gateway account.
  • Process payroll journal entries into Sage Accounts.
  • Review and reconcile payroll and pension control accounts.
  • Manage payroll year-end procedures.
  • Stay updated on payroll legislation.
  • Be the main contact for payroll queries internally and externally.
  • Implement Agenda for Change pay rate changes.
  • Calculate pay rates and enhancements.
  • Maintain pay rates in RM and communicate with HR.
  • Maintain RM to Sage payroll link.
  • Process self-employed GP payments and provide income reports.

Pensions

  • Ensure compliance with auto-enrolment and re-assessment every three years.
  • Stay updated on NHS Pensions scheme requirements.
  • Re-assess part-time staff for NHS pension monthly.
  • Maintain NHS Pension database for joiners, leavers, and changes.
  • Act as the main contact for NHS Pensions and employee queries.
  • Pay and report NHS, Nest, and GP Solo pension contributions monthly.
  • Produce and submit annual GP Solo forms.
  • Process NHS Pensions SD55 Annual Returns.
  • Handle pension retirements with external support as needed.
  • Investigate pension and pay queries from GPs.
Person Specification
Experience
  • Extensive experience managing large-scale payroll operations, ideally processing for over 200 members, with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working with Sage 50.
  • Process-driven, self-motivated, with excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for payroll and pensions.
  • Knowledge of NHS Pensions and pension regulations is highly desirable, as is a CIPP qualification.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Maths and English.
