Job summary

Job description

At West Coast Motors, our engineering teams are at the heart of keeping our services running safely and reliably. As a PCV Electrician based at our Depot in Glasgow, you'll play a vital role in maintaining and repairing the electrical and electronic systems that keep our buses and coaches on the road every day.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic faults on buses and coaches.
• Maintain, repair and install vehicle wiring, lighting systems, batteries, charging systems, alternators and starter motors.
• Use electronic diagnostic equipment and manufacturer software to identify and rectify faults.
• Inspect and test and maintain vehicle electrical circuits, control systems and electronic components.
• Repair and maintain CCTV, destination equipment, passenger information systems and telematics equipment.
• Assist with vehicle upgrades, modifications and the installation of new equipment.
• Support MOT preparation and vehicle inspections.
• Complete workshop documentation accurately and promptly.
• Work closely with colleagues to minimise vehicle downtime and maximise fleet availability.
• Maintain high standard of safety, quality and housekeeping at all times.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• Experience working as a Vehicle Electrician, Auto Electrician or in a similar vehicle electrical role
• Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
• Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, CAN bus systems and electronic control units
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, technical manuals and diagnostic information
• Experience using diagnostic equipment and appropriate testing tools
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Clear and professional communication skills
• A full UK driving licence

Desirable

• Experience working on buses, coaches or other public service vehicles
• Automotive, electrical or engineering qualificationPSV driving licence
• Knowledge of passenger information systems and telematics systems
• IRTEC accreditation or an equivalent industry qualification

Working Hours

This is a full-time, permanent position. Shift patterns may include early shifts, late shifts and weekend working to support operational requirements. Overtime opportunities may be available.
