Job summary

West Coast Motors in Glasgow is seeking an experienced Bus and Coach Mechanic to join our Charles Street depot. You will carry out servicing, repairs and MOT preparations on buses and coaches and work as part of our engineering team to keep the fleet safe and reliable.

The role requires a recognized qualification or substantial hands-on experience, a full driving licence, and the ability to work five days across seven.

Qualifications

• SVQ/NVQ Level 3 in Bus & Coach Engineering or equivalent.
• At least two years’ experience repairing and maintaining public service vehicles or HGVs.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work safely and to a high standard; good organisation and communication.
• Flexibility to work five days over seven and hold a full driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine inspections, servicing and running repairs on buses and coaches.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and conduct safety checks.
• Repair defects promptly to a high standard and maintain licence compliance.
• Maintain records and documentation accurately; manage workload effectively.
• Work both independently and with the engineering team while upholding safety standards.

Bus and Coach Mechanic

Are you an experienced Bus, Coach or HGV Mechanic looking for a secure, permanent position in Glasgow?

We are looking for a skilled and dependable

Bus and Coach Mechanicto join our engineering team at our

Charles Street depot. You will play an essential role in keeping our varied fleet safe, reliable and ready to serve our passengers.

What you’ll be doing

• Carrying out routine inspections, servicing, preventative maintenance and running repairs on buses and coaches
• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults
• Preparing vehicles for MOT and completing safety checks
• Repairing vehicle defects promptly and to a consistently high standard
• Maintaining vehicles in accordance with our operator’s licence requirements
• Completing maintenance records and other relevant documentation accurately
• Organising and prioritising your workload effectively
• Working independently and collaboratively with the wider engineering team
• Maintaining high standards of health, safety and workmanship at all times

What you’ll need

You should have either:

• An SVQ or NVQ Level 3 qualification in Bus and Coach Engineering, Vehicle Maintenance or an equivalent discipline; or
• At least two years’ demonstrable experience repairing and maintaining public service vehicles or heavy goods vehicles

You will also need:

• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
• The ability to work safely, efficiently and to a high standard
• Good organisational and communication skills
• The flexibility to work five days over seven
• A full driving licence

A

Category D PCV licencewould be an advantage but is not essential, as we can support you in obtaining your licence.
