Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join a robust payroll team in the UK. You will ensure accurate processing of payroll data, support HR and Finance, and drive improvements in a complex payroll environment.

The role focuses on UK payroll legislation, HMRC reporting, and supporting system testing and upgrades. A strong attention to detail and experience with payroll software is essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience handling UK payroll data and HMRC compliance.
  • Knowledge of payroll processes and testing methodologies.
  • Proficient in Excel and reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Process and validate payroll data accurately and on time.
  • Ensure HMRC reporting is completed correctly and on time.
  • Manage complex payroll activities including director and overseas payroll.
  • Investigate payroll system queries and data discrepancies.
  • Support payroll system upgrades, maintenance, testing and continuity.
  • Perform manual payroll calculations when required.
  • Produce payroll reports for management, audit and compliance.

Job description

Payroll Specialist

Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join their established payroll team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a payroll professional with strong systems and compliance experience to play a key role in ensuring payroll data is processed accurately, efficiently and in line with legislative requirements.

Working closely with HR and Finance, you will support payroll operations, system testing, reporting and continuous process improvements within a complex business environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and validate payroll data accurately and within required deadlines.
  • Ensure HMRC reporting obligations are completed correctly and on time.
  • Manage complex payroll activities, including director and overseas payroll arrangements.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll system queries and data discrepancies.
  • Support payroll system upgrades, maintenance, testing and business continuity activities.
  • Perform manual payroll calculations when required.
  • Produce payroll reports for management, audit and compliance purposes.
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and payroll processes.
  • Experience working with payroll systems and payroll software.
  • Excellent payroll calculation skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience supporting payroll systems, data validation or payroll projects.
  • Understanding of UAT and system testing methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to work to strict deadlines.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to explain complex payroll matters.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Payroll or Finance qualification desirable.
