Accountable Recruitment is seeking a Payroll Specialist in St Helens to manage end-to-end payroll processes, ensuring accurate and on-time payments while complying with UK legislation. The role covers starters/leavers, deductions, bonuses, and statutory payments, with responsibility for PAYE, NI, and pension contributions.

You will maintain payroll records, respond to queries, and stay updated on regulatory changes, supporting year-end activities.

Responsibilities

  • Process monthly/weekly payroll accurately and efficiently.
  • Manage starters, leavers, changes to pay, deductions, bonuses and other payroll adjustments.
  • Calculate statutory payments, including sick pay, maternity and other applicable payments.
  • Ensure accurate processing of PAYE, National Insurance and pension contributions.
  • Complete payroll reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Prepare payroll reports for internal teams and maintain records.
  • Respond to payroll queries from employees promptly.
  • Stay updated with changes in payroll legislation.
  • Support year-end payroll processes and reporting.

Payroll Specialist

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join a successful business. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong understanding of payroll processes who takes pride in delivering accurate and timely payroll services.

The Role

As Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and company policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process monthly/weekly payroll accurately and efficiently.
  • Manage starters, leavers, changes to pay, deductions, bonuses and other payroll adjustments.
  • Calculate statutory payments, including sick pay, maternity and other applicable payments.
  • Ensure accurate processing of PAYE, National Insurance and pension contributions.
  • Complete payroll reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Prepare payroll reports and provide information to relevant internal teams.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records.
  • Respond to payroll queries from employees in a professional and timely manner.
  • Stay up to date with changes in payroll legislation and regulations.
  • Support with year-end payroll processes and reporting.

  • Previous experience in a payroll-focused role.
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll processes and legislation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Good numerical and analytical skills.

  • Experience using payroll software and Microsoft Excel.

Payroll qualifications such as CIPP are desirable but not essential.
