Job summary

Portfolio Payroll Limited, Doncaster, is seeking a Payroll Specialist to lead end-to-end UK payroll and pensions processing on a temp-to-perm basis. Hybrid role with office base in Doncaster and some remote flexibility.

You will handle weekly and monthly payrolls, auto-enrolment, expenses, and data entry on iTrent, maintain compliance, support the Payroll Team Leader, and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on end-to-end UK payroll and pensions experience.
• Experience using the iTrent payroll platform for processing.
• Desirable qualifications in payroll transformations or training staff.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end payroll & pensions: oversee weekly and monthly payrolls, auto-enrolment and expenses.
• System management: data entry and processing on the iTrent platform.
• Compliance & quality assurance: uphold internal controls and HMRC guidelines.
• Continuous improvement: identify automation opportunities to reduce manual work.
• Stakeholder collaboration: liaise with Finance, People, and third-party providers.
• Operational support: back Payroll Team Leader and meet SLAs and KPIs.

Portfolio Payroll is working alongside a highly prestigious, household-name UK consumer brand based in Doncaster who are seeking a talented Payroll Specialist to spearhead their end-to-end processing on a temp to perm basis.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-end payroll & pensions: Oversee accurate and timely delivery of weekly and monthly payrolls, auto-enrolment, pensions, and colleague expenses.
• System management: Manage day-to-day processing and data entry utilizing the iTrent platform.
• Compliance & quality assurance: Maintain full compliance with internal controls, statutory requirements, HMRC guidelines, and audit standards.
• Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities for standardisation and automation to reduce manual intervention and increase operational efficiency.
• Stakeholder collaboration: Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, partnering with Finance, People, and third-party providers.
• Operational support: Provide dedicated support to the Payroll Team Leadership while ensuring strict adherence to SLAs and KPIs.

Ideal Experience

• Proven payroll background: Minimum of 3 years of practical, hands‑on experience in end‑to‑end UK and ROI payroll and pensions processing.
• iTrent systems expertise: Proven, confident capability in processing and delivering payroll using iTrent.
• Change & transformation skills: Experience supporting new technologies, testing new functionality, and training team members.
• Strong communication & organisation: Able to build connected relationships across business areas with clarity, context, and high integrity.
• Professional qualifications: A professional CIPP Payroll Technician qualification or a Payroll Level 3 apprenticeship is highly desirable.

• Salary: £18ph + Holiday Pay (£36,000 FTE)
• Contract: Temp-to-Perm
• Working Pattern: Hybrid working pattern (office-based in Doncaster with remote flexibility)
• Reporting to: Payroll Team Leader
