Job summary

West Sussex County Council is seeking a proactive Pensions Administrator to provide pension administration support across LGPS and other schemes. You will maintain records, process events and assist with data submissions, while delivering high-quality customer service.

The role requires good knowledge of Excel and Word, strong organisation, and the ability to work as part of a team. Hybrid working options and in-office day pattern apply.

Qualifications

  • Process pension scheme events and maintain member records.
  • Support cyclical pension administration activities and statutory exercises.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and procedures.
  • Assist with payroll data submissions and pension queries.
  • Support pension projects and remedy programmes, including McCloud/Matthews.
  • Contribute to accurate benefit administration for staff and teachers.

The Opportunity

Salary: £21,376 to £21,717 per annum, pro rata for 29 hours per week (£27,274 to £27,709 per annum is the full time equivalent)
Working pattern:Part time - 29 hours per week – flexible on pattern but must work in the office on a specified day which will be discussed at interview.
Contract type:Permanent
Location:Based at County Hall - Chichester, with hybrid working options.

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Pensions Administrator to join our team. This varied role provides pension administration support across a range of schemes, including the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), Fire Pension Scheme, NHS Pension Scheme, Teachers' Pension Scheme, UNISON Pension Scheme, NEST, and The People's Pension.

Working as part of a busy and supportive team, you will help ensure pension records are maintained accurately, member benefits are administered correctly, and customers receive a high-quality service.

Key duties for the Pensions Team role include:

  • Process pension scheme events
  • Maintain accurate member records and pension data in line with regulations and procedures.
  • Support the delivery of cyclical pension administration activities and statutory exercises.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and internal procedures.
  • Assist with pension administration queries and data submissions.
  • Support pension projects and regulatory remedy programmes, including the implementation of backdated pension scheme changes.
  • Assist with complex pension reviews and exercises, such as the McCloud Remedy and Matthews Project, ensuring records are updated accurately and members receive the correct pension benefits.
What are we looking for?

To thrive in this role, you will need good knowledge of Excel and Word, be confident, flexible, resilient, organised, be able to balance priorities and deadlines and enjoy working as part of a team.

You will be comfortable working on routine payroll processing and related administrative tasks.

You will have experience working in a customer focussed role, with the ability to explain basic payroll information.

You will be dealing with council and school staff on the telephone and will need to demonstrate excellent customer care and communication skills, when responding to potentially sensitive payroll queries from staff.

You will also need to be able to work on your own initiative, organising your work appropriately and responding to changing priorities to meet agreed deadlines.
