Job summary

TPF Recruitment is working with a well-established independent Chartered Accountants firm in Southampton to recruit an experienced Payroll Manager.

You will lead the payroll function, manage end-to-end delivery across weekly to monthly payroll cycles, and mentor the payroll team while acting as the main contact for clients and HMRC.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience managing payroll within an accountancy practice.
  • Knowledge of UK payroll legislation including PAYE, NI and auto-enrolment.
  • Experience supervising or leading a payroll team.
  • Ability to liaise with HMRC, pension providers and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end delivery of weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls for a diverse client portfolio.
  • Lead and develop the payroll team, providing technical support and review.
  • Act as primary point of contact for payroll clients and colleagues.
  • Ensure payrolls are compliant with current legislation and deadlines.
  • Oversee RTI submissions and payroll reconciliations.

TPF Recruitment is delighted to be working with awell-established and highly regarded independent firm of Chartered Accountantsin Southampton that is looking to recruit an experienced Payroll Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payrollprofessional who enjoys building client relationships, leading a successfulpayroll function and supporting a small team. You'll join a friendly andcollaborative practice with an outstanding reputation for delivering afirst-class service to a varied client base, ranging from owner-managedbusinesses and SMEs to larger corporate organisations. As Payroll Manager, you'll take ownership of the firm'spayroll department, ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of payrollservices while acting as the key point of contact for both clients and thewider team. The Role You'll be responsible for managing a varied portfolio ofclient payrolls while overseeing the day-to-day running of the payrollfunction. Alongside your technical responsibilities, you'll provide leadership,support and guidance to the payroll team, ensuring work is delivered to thehighest standards. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managingthe end-to-end delivery of weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthlypayrolls for a diverse client portfolio
  • Leading,motivating and developing the payroll team, providing technical supportand reviewing work where required.
  • Actingas the primary point of contact for payroll clients, building long-termrelationships and providing expert advice.
  • Ensuringpayrolls are processed accurately and in line with current legislation andagreed deadlines.
  • ReviewingPAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments, pension contributions andpayroll reconciliations.
  • ManagingReal Time Information (RTI) submissions and ensuring compliance with HMRCrequirements.
  • Supportingthe implementation of new payroll clients and assisting with payrollprocess improvements.
  • Liaisingwith HMRC, pension providers and other third parties to resolve technicalqueries.
  • Maintaininghigh levels of data accuracy, confidentiality and GDPR compliance.
  • Identifyingopportunities to improve processes and enhance the overall clientexperience.
Requirements

We're looking for an experienced payroll professional whocombines strong technical knowledge with excellent people and client managementskills. You'll ideally have:

  • Previousexperience managing payroll within an accountancy practice or payrollbureau.
  • Astrong understanding of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, NationalInsurance, statutory payments and auto-enrolment.
  • Experiencesupervising or managing a payroll team.
  • Knowledgeof IRIS, Staffology or similar payroll software.
  • Excellentorganisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Aproactive approach and a genuine commitment to delivering exceptionalclient service.
  • Strongcommunication skills and confidence building relationships with clientsand colleagues alike.
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays.
