Job Title: Payroll Co-ordinator
Location: Manchester or Stoke-on-Trent
Role overview:
The post holder will be working for the Group Payroll Team within People Operations. You will be responsible for providing an accurate and customer-focused payroll service, working within the payroll services team and reporting into the Group Payroll Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing in line with Markerstudy’s SLAs.
- Administer monthly payroll, including new starters, leavers, and statutory absence calculations.
- Process expense claims per policy and provided information.
- Provide payslips, earnings statements, and references for current and former employees.
- Resolve payroll queries via phone, email, ServiceNow, or in person.
- Calculate PAYE and pension liabilities in compliance with legislation and upload data to relevant bodies.
- Upload net wages to banking systems by deadlines.
- Complete month-end tasks in HR/payroll systems.
- Ensure timely HMRC, pension, and local authority payments.
- Run full payroll cycles and submit data to HMRC promptly.
- Maintain accurate payroll data and reporting to finance.
- Assist with ad-hoc reporting and other duties as required.
- Promote compliance with quality, security, legal, and regulatory standards.
- Protect sensitive customer, employee, and business information.
- Follow and act on the Whistleblowing Procedure and Code of Conduct.
- Stay current through professional development and support team growth.
- Maintain a positive, solutions-focused attitude and give constructive feedback.
- Represent the team and company professionally in all interactions.
- Ensure confidentiality is upheld at all times.
- Perform other duties as reasonably required within the role's scope.
Required Skills:
- Experience using SD Worx, Cascade and/or Dayforce HR and Payroll software
- Previous experience working within a payroll team/environment
- Intermediate Excel skills and formulas such as VLookUps and Pivot Tables
- Experience in reconciling pension contributions and maintaining pensions records in accordance with TPR legislation
- Ability to organise own time effectively, set and meet realistic deadlines
