JOB TITLE: Pastry Commis Chef

DEPARTMENT: Pastry Kitchen Food and Beverage

EMPLOYER: Whitehall Hotel Limited (WHL)

JOB LEVEL: Line

REPORTS TO: Chef de Partie

Scope Of Position

Assist senior chefs in preparing and serving pastry and bakery items, maintaining high standards, following recipes, and ensuring cleanliness and organization of the designated kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils.

Responsibilities

Operation

  • Follow methods, preparation, and recipe standards.
  • Contribute to environmentally conscious practices and low waste operations.
  • Ensure proper storage and labeling of foodstuffs, equipment, and dry goods.
  • Maintain correct stock rotation and manage ordering levels through proper channels.
  • Work on a rota basis as required.
  • Perform additional duties or cover in the absence of line managers or senior staff, including working in different departments or restaurants as assigned.

Health and Safety

  • Report and rectify hazards immediately.
  • Be familiar with departmental fire, emergency, and bomb procedures.
  • Ensure safety of persons and property by adhering to laws and ordinances, and pre-planning defenses against hazards.
  • Promote health and safety awareness within the department.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Proven ability to deliver high service levels under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, both written and spoken.
  • Willingness to contribute to a 24-hour operational schedule when needed.

Desirable

  • Experience in a luxury hotel environment, working with LQA, Forbes 5* standards, or similar.
