Job summary

Thetford Academy in Thetford, IP24 1LH, is seeking a Vice Principal (Pastoral) to join the Senior Leadership Team. The salary on Leadership Pay Scale Points 19-22 (£83,478 - £89,842) reflects senior school leadership.

This is a full-time permanent post starting January 2027. The successful candidate will lead safeguarding, equality, pastoral support, and behaviour initiatives, set strategic direction, and drive outcomes for all pupils including SEND.

Qualifications

• An appropriate degree and Qualified Teacher Status.
• Experience of senior leadership in schools as an Assistant Principal or similarly senior staff.
• Experience of strategic planning in educational settings and the implementation of plans in an effective and efficient manner.
• Experience of participating in external school evaluation, such as inspection or reviews.
• Involvement in performance management, self-evaluation and data analysis to improve individuals and teams.
• Experience leading pedagogic changes at team or whole-school level.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate and support staff to high standards.
• Desirable: NPQSL or NPQH and multiple-school leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Be the lead officer for Safeguarding (Designated Safeguarding Lead).
• Implement safeguarding elements of all relevant policies.
• Lead equality, diversity and inclusion across the school.
• Deliver and manage good quality pastoral support programmes.
• Lead strategic teams to develop high-quality behaviour.
• Ensure needs of all pupils, including SEND, are met.
• Ensure QA procedures are undertaken rigorously.
• Undertake line management as directed by the Principal.
