Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Worker to join an Alternative Provision in the Poulton area. The role begins on 1st September 2026 on a temporary basis with a genuine view to permanent employment for the right candidate.

You will mentor students with SEMH needs, support wellbeing, and collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and external agencies while safeguarding pupils in line with school policies.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young people in a school, AP, youth work, or residential care setting.
  • Empathy, resilience and trauma-informed approach preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Availability to start on 1st September.

Responsibilities

  • Mentoring & Wellbeing: Provide 1-to-1 and small group pastoral support for students with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement positive strategies, de-escalate situations and promote engagement in learning.
  • Collaboration: Work with teaching staff, SENCOs and external agencies to monitor progress and update support plans.
  • Safeguarding: Promote child welfare in line with policies and guidelines.

About the Role

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people who benefit from specialised educational settings? We are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient Pastoral Support Worker to join a supportive alternative provision in the Poulton area.

This role begins on 1st September on a temporary basis, with the genuine view of transitioning into a permanent contract for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mentoring & Wellbeing: Provide 1-to-1 and small group pastoral support, acting as a trusted mentor to students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs or challenging behaviour.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement positive behaviour support strategies, de-escalate situations calmly, and encourage productive engagement in learning.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external agencies to track student progress, monitor attendance, and update support plans.
  • Safeguarding: Actively promote and safeguard the welfare of all students in line with school policies and statutory guidelines.
What We Are Looking For
  • Experience: Previous experience working with young people in a school, alternative provision, youth work, or residential care setting.
  • Empathy & Resilience: A calm, patient, and resilient approach with a strong commitment to trauma-informed practice.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to build positive rapport with disengaged or vulnerable students, as well as their families and staff.
  • Availability: Ready to start on 1st September.
