Tradewind Recruitment is supporting a well-established SEMH school in Leyland to recruit a dedicated Pastoral Support Worker for a full-time role starting in September.

You will deliver 1:1 and small group mentoring, applying trauma-informed strategies and collaborating with staff, parents and external specialists to tailor support plans. A safeguarding clearance is required and a temporary-to-permanent path is offered.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young adults with SEMH or challenging behaviour.
  • DBS check on Update Service (or willingness to complete one) and safeguarding clearance.
  • Desirable: Team-Teach, CPI/MAPA, or trauma-informed practice training.

Responsibilities

Pastoral Support Worker - SEMH Specialist School

Location: Leyland, Lancashire

Start Date: September

Working Pattern: Full-Time (5 Days a Week, Term-Time Only)

Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent (Temp-to-Perm)

Pay Rate: £98.89 - £129.89 per day (dependent on experience) PAYE

Key Responsibilities
  • 1:1 & Small Group Mentoring: Deliver structured pastoral interventions to help pupils regulate their emotions and access the curriculum.
  • De-escalation & Wellbeing: Implement trauma-informed strategies and positive behaviour management techniques to create a safe, reassuring environment.
  • Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work alongside class teachers, the SENCo, parents, and external specialists to build tailored support plans.
  • Attendance & Engagement: Build genuine, trusting relationships with young people to boost confidence, attendance, and social development.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate daily logs regarding pupil progress, wellbeing, and behaviour management.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Experience: Background supporting children or young adults with complex SEMH needs, ASC, ADHD, or challenging behaviour (within education, residential care, or youth work).
  • Core Skills: Exceptional patience, high emotional resilience, strong communication skills, and a calm approach in high-pressure situations.
  • Desirable Training: Team-Teach, CPI/MAPA, or trauma-informed practice certification (or willingness to complete training).
  • Safeguarding: An Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or readiness to complete one) and full safeguarding clearance.
