Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Worker to join SEN/SEMH schools in Chorley from September 2026. You will support pupils with SEMH, ASC, ADHD, and behavioural challenges, helping them overcome barriers to learning.

As part of the pastoral team, you will build positive relationships, support emotional wellbeing, and collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to deliver targeted support and ensure a safe, nurturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people in education, care, youth work, residential settings, or similar environments.
  • Experience supporting individuals with SEN/SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • Patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and maintain professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and act as a consistent role model.
  • Provide emotional, behavioural, and pastoral support to students on a one-to-one and small group basis.
  • Support the implementation of behaviour management and individual support plans.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals to meet students' needs.
  • Assist students in developing emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, and social skills.
  • Support pupils during periods of dysregulation and help de-escalate challenging situations.
  • Encourage attendance, engagement, and participation in school life.
  • Monitor pupil progress and maintain accurate records of interventions and support provided.
  • Promote safeguarding and contribute to a safe, nurturing learning environment.
