Job summary

Exeter - A Learning Community is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Officer to lead on attendance as part of our Safeguarding and Wellbeing Team. The role focuses on promoting punctuality and engagement, supporting pastoral care and safeguarding, and collaborating with staff, families, and external partners to remove barriers to regular attendance.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or families in an educational or community setting.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication with students, families and staff.

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children and young people.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, track, and analyse student attendance and punctuality.
  • Work with students and families to improve attendance and engagement.
  • Conduct attendance meetings with parents/carers and students as needed.
  • Liaise with staff, pastoral leaders, and external agencies to address barriers.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and prepare reports as required.
  • Support safeguarding and welfare procedures in line with school policies.
  • Promote a positive culture of attendance and punctuality across the school.
  • Undertake home visits where appropriate and permitted.

We are seeking to appoint, with immediate effect, a Pastoral Support Officer to lead on attendance within our Safeguarding and Wellbeing Team. This team is involved in the delivery of day-to-day safeguarding and pastoral support of our children, including the promotion of good attendance so that all children can achieve and thrive. The Pastoral Support Officer will support this work as part of the wider team, supporting pastoral care, wellbeing and behaviour and will have specific responsibilities in relation to attendance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake home visits where appropriate and in accordance with school procedures.
The Successful Candidate Will Have:
  • Experience of working with children, young people, or families, preferably within an educational setting.
  • A good understanding of attendance procedures and strategies to improve student engagement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
  • The ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused in challenging situations.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
