Job summary

Knotty Ash Primary School is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Attendance Support Officer to join our Inclusion Team. You will play a key role in promoting attendance, supporting pupil wellbeing, and helping to remove barriers to learning while working with families, school leaders and external agencies.

In this role you will monitor attendance, coordinate intervention strategies, support safeguarding processes and ensure every child can access learning opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Strong organisational and administrative abilities.
  • Confident and sensitive communication with children, families and professionals.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Commitment to improving attendance, inclusion and outcomes for children.
  • Able to work independently whilst contributing to a wider team.
  • Comfort with digital record-keeping and school systems.
  • Experience in an administrative role; school/education setting is desirable.
  • Holds GCSEs in English and Mathematics.
  • Full driving licence with access to own vehicle and willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyse and report on pupil attendance and identify early intervention needs.
  • Manage first-day absence procedures and follow up unexplained absences.
  • Work with pupils, families and staff to remove attendance barriers and support positive outcomes.
  • Lead attendance support plans and coordinate interventions for targeted pupils.
  • Liaise with external agencies and represent the school at relevant meetings.
  • Support safeguarding, pupil welfare and inclusion.
  • Maintain accurate records and attendance systems and support communications.

Job description

Knotty Ash Primary School is seeking a dedicated, compassionate and highly organised Pastoral Attendance Support Officer to join our Inclusion Team.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and families. You will play a key role in promoting high levels of attendance, supporting pupil wellbeing, and helping to remove barriers that may prevent children from fully engaging with education. Working closely with pupils, families, school leaders and external agencies, you will make a genuine difference to the lives of our children.

About the Role

As our Pastoral Attendance Support Officer, you will be a vital link between school and home, working proactively with families to improve attendance, punctuality and engagement. You will monitor attendance patterns, coordinate intervention strategies, support safeguarding processes and provide practical assistance to ensure every child can access learning opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyse and report on pupil attendance, identifying concerns and implementing early intervention strategies.
  • Manage first-day absence procedures and follow up unexplained absences.
  • Work closely with pupils, families and staff to remove barriers to attendance and support positive outcomes.
  • Lead attendance support plans and coordinate appropriate interventions for targeted pupils.
  • Liaise with external agencies and represent the school at attendance, safeguarding and family support meetings as required.
  • Contribute to safeguarding, pupil welfare and inclusion, supporting vulnerable children and families.
  • Maintain accurate records, attendance systems and reports, while supporting school communications and administrative processes.

  • Has experience in an administrative role; experience in a school or educational setting is desirable.
  • Holds GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • Has a full driving licence, access to their own vehicle and flexibility to travel as required.
