Job summary

Selston High School is seeking a Pastoral Support Officer to assist a designated Head of Year in pastoral matters, safeguarding and parental engagement. The role supports Attendance Officers with attendance issues within the designated year group and involves working with students to overcome barriers to learning.

The successful candidate will have experience mentoring or coaching young people, including those with challenging behaviour.

  • Carry out duties before school, at break and lunchtime, and in the Pastoral base.
  • Provide corrections support after school and on-call support around site.
  • Build relationships with families and external agencies.

Job description

The Pastoral Support Officer will provide support to a designated Head of Year in pastoral matters and in particular with behavioural issues, safeguarding and parental engagement. The role will support the Attendance Officers with attendance issues within their designated year group.

What You'll Be Doing:

If you were successful in the role, you would follow a structure timetable with designated tasks to support our students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. A typical day as a Pastoral Support Officer would include:

  • Mornings are for supporting the attendance team, making calls, monitoring and appropriate follow up.
  • Daily you will provide pastoral support within the year group which includes uniform checks, lesson drop ins, RESET interventions ensuring our students have their best foot forward and always are ready to learn
  • Scheduled duties will take place before school, break and lunchtime. Additional duties in the Pastoral base will also be required.
  • Corrections support after school
  • On call support around site providing timely support to students and staff
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders by meetings with families and external agencies
  • Behaviour support within the year group which includes collecting statements from students and staff.

The successful candidate will have experience of mentoring, coaching or working with young people, and experience of successfully working with young people with challenging behaviour. An offer of employment will be subject to the receipt of a satisfactory enhanced level DBS disclosure with a children's barred list check, two satisfactory references and successful completion of vetting procedures.

Grade and Salary

Grade 4: £25,298 - £27,443 actual salary per annum pro rata ( £29,542 - £32,046 FTE)

Working pattern 37 hours per week, 39 working weeks (TTO plus inset days)
