Job description

Do you have a passion for supporting young people and helping them reach their potential? Are you proactive, approachable and committed to making a positive difference? North Kent Colleges Group has an exciting opportunity with five newly created Pastoral Support Coach roles across our four Colleges.

In this rewarding role, you'll provide pastoral support, guidance and early intervention to help students overcome barriers, stay engaged with their studies and achieve their goals. You'll build positive relationships with students and work closely with curriculum teams, Welfare & Safeguarding, Learning Support, parents, carers and external agencies to make sure students receive the right support at the right time.

You'll play a key role in identifying and addressing barriers to attendance, engagement, retention and achievement, providing timely support to students who may be at risk of disengaging. You'll also use student information to identify concerns early and help develop strategies that support positive outcomes.

Reporting directly to the College Deputy Principal, you'll contribute to a proactive prevention and 'early help' approach as part of the wider Learning Support Team. You'll work alongside Welfare and Safeguarding colleagues to support effective safeguarding and make use of external agency and outreach support where appropriate.

We're looking for someone who is dynamic, flexible, proactive and an excellent communicator, with the confidence to build positive relationships with young people from a wide range of backgrounds. You'll be organised, collaborative and able to use your initiative to identify challenges and find positive solutions.

Experience in pastoral support, mentoring, youth work, education, welfare or a similar setting would be beneficial, but we're equally interested in your transferable skills, values and passion for supporting young people.

If you're passionate about helping young people overcome challenges, stay engaged and succeed, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role
Where you'll work

We have five newly created opportunities across our four Colleges (NKC Dartford, Gravesend, Hadlow and Tonbridge, including two positions based at Dartford)

Your hours

37 hours per week, 36 weeks per annum

Your pay

£20,003.91 pro rata per annum + £3,732.84 holiday pay (£28,974 per annum, full-time equivalent)

The Group

North Kent Colleges Group is proudly rated as an Ofsted 'Good' provider, with 'Outstanding' learner behaviours and attitudes (April 2024). With four Colleges across Kent (Dartford, Gravesend, Hadlow and Tonbridge) and over 6,000 students, we strive to equip the young people who study here with an inclusive and innovative education experience to enhance their future career prospects, which, as noted by Ofsted, is supported through our high-quality, industry standard facilities. Each and every staff member plays a key part in delivering the success of our learners' experience, and we want those who join our curriculum and support teams to share our passion in achieving this.

The Benefits
  • Enrolment onto the People's Partnership pension scheme (as part of the staff of North Kent College Business Services Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of North Kent College).
  • Access to free parking and a range of onsite facilities, a restaurant and coffee shop.

North Kent Colleges Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and all staff have a responsibility to share and maintain this commitment. In line with the requirements of 'Keeping Children Safe in Education', appropriate safeguarding checks (including an enhanced DBS check) will be undertaken on all individuals selected for appointment. Posts at the College, a specified establishment where the work gives opportunity for contact with children, are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. It is an offence to apply for a post which involves engaging in regulated activity relevant to children if you are barred from doing so. Please be advised that, again in line with 'Keeping Children Safe in Education', shortlisted candidates (who wish to accept an invite to interview) will be required to complete and submit prior to their interview a self-declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children. Further guidance / information from the Ministry of Justice can be found on GOV.UK.
